we donated over $3,000 to SLO Animal Shelter March/April 2022

SLO’s only community-owned grocery store donates $2,518.62 to SLO Animal Shelter as part of our ongoing 2% Tuesdays program. These donations support the SLO Animal Shelter’s mission to support and protect the pet animal community in SLO.

According to their website, each year, thousands of lost and owner-surrendered animals make their way through the shelter. Most of these are healthy, well-tempered pets looking to get back home, or perhaps looking for a new family. The website states that “our staff and volunteers also work hard to provide care for sick or injured animals found without an owner and to provide training and socialization for some of those shelter animals who may need a bit of help before finding a ‘forever home.’”

While cats and dogs comprise the large majority of animals coming through the shelter, they regularly house a wide variety of other animals, ranging from rabbits, chickens, and Guinea pigs to parrots, pythons, and horses.

Designed to give back 2% of each Tuesday’s total sales to a worthy local nonprofit, the 2% Tuesdays program began in 2020 and has snowballed in popularity each month, resulting in one of the biggest totals yet. Shoppers are also able to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, which allows for the community to support the recipient directly.

Well-loved by the community for their dedication to the rescue and restoration of animals, shoppers and co-op staff alike were glad to raise donations for this worthy cause.

Your donations go toward emergency medical services for their residents and to many more aspects of animal care that take care of those most in need.

SLO Food Co-op is currently open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The team is happy to shop for customers who require a personal shopper during regular store hours.
