giving: shoppers and co-op unite to donate $2,800 to Hospice of SLO County

SLO’s only community-owned grocery store donates $2,800.00 to Hospice of SLO County as part of our ongoing 2% Tuesdays program. Throughout the months of July and August, shoppers demonstrated excitement and joy to know that their purchases went to such a worthy cause. These donations support the hospice’s mission to support the community in working with those near the end of life and the people who love them by providing in-home support, caregiver respite, grief counseling, support groups, community response and education.

Designed to give back 2% of each Tuesday’s total sales to a worthy local nonprofit, the 2% Tuesdays program began in 2020 and has snowballed in popularity each month. Shoppers are also able to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, which allows for the community to support the recipient directly.

The Hospice is all about inclusion and thoughtful services for all families and individuals. Since 1977, Hospice SLO County has provided county-wide non-medical in-home respite care, emotional support, practical assistance and comfort to individuals, their families and caregivers who are coping with a life limiting illness.

Hospice SLO County Grief Counseling services offer individual and family counseling and group support (free of charge) to anyone grieving a death regardless of when or how the death occurred. The co-op continues to support local organizations like this one, with the SLO Noor Foundation announced as the next recipient for September and October.

SLO Food Co-op is currently open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The team is happy to shop for customers who require a personal shopper during regular store hours.
