the co-op donates over $2,400 to local SLO Noor Foundation

SLO’s only community-owned grocery store donates $2,436.04 to SLO Noor Foundation as part of our ongoing 2% Tuesdays program. Throughout the months of September and October 2022, shoppers showed overwhelming support to this amazing nonprofit. These donations support the foundation’s mission to providing free medical, dental and vision care to uninsured adults in San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County, regardless of race, ethnicity, immigration status, religion, sexual orientation, or gender.

Designed to give back 2% of each Tuesday’s total sales to a worthy local nonprofit, the 2% Tuesdays program began in 2020 and has snowballed in popularity each month. Shoppers are also able to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, which allows for the community to support the recipient directly.

In 2009, Dr. Ahmad Nooristani recognized the need to provide care to uninsured adults in SLO County. The first SLO Noor Medical Clinic opened in October 2011 as a 501(c)3 to aid this problem by providing free, high quality, non-emergent health care to those who could not otherwise afford to access care in San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County.

The Foundation works to mitigate the effect on our community of the growing number of uninsured adults residing in our neighborhoods, the increasing risk of poor health conditions impacted by the lack of insurance, and the prevalence of the low-income and homeless in need of medical care. The co-op continues to support local organizations like this one, with the SLO Food Bank announced as the recipient for November and December.

SLO Food Co-op is currently open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The team is happy to shop for customers who require a personal shopper during regular store hours.
